Eren Alp, who brought iris photography to Eskişehir, Turkey, after seeing and practicing it in Germany, is offering a unique perspective on people's eyes by turning his captured images into various accessories.

Iris photography, also known as personalized art, is a rare form of photography in Turkey. Alp, who discovered this different style of photography in Germany and brought it to Eskişehir, transforms the captured eyes into various products such as paintings and bracelets. Alp, who has been taking eye photos in Eskişehir for about 6 months, offers a different perspective on the eyes. He mentioned that most of the time, customers request the photos of people who are special to them. The shooting is done with high-resolution cameras equipped with specialized lenses. The printed eye photos are then enlarged or reduced in different scales to become meaningful personal belongings. Alp emphasized that although eyes may appear similar from the outside, each one has unique shapes. He pointed out that this process can be applied to individuals aged 5 and older, where eye formation is complete.

"We wanted to bring something inspired from Germany to Eskişehir"

Talking about how he discovered and entered this field of iris photography, Eren Alp said, "We started our studies a year ago and began addressing our first customers 6 months ago. We have several product options that we make professionally. We reflect the solutions of each print on our customers and provide them with our services with high-quality prints. This is actually a German-originated project that we wanted to bring to Eskişehir, inspired by Germany. A few people in Eskişehir inquired about it, and since we were already in the field of photography, we received a lot of demand. We said why not do it, and then continued our studies with great efforts."

"We have options for jewelry collections, our shootings can be provided"

Speaking about the key points of the shootings, photographer Alp said, "First, we take iris shots, capturing the eyes. Then we discuss with our customers which products they would like to purchase and go into detail about the specific details. For example, the backgrounds can be changed in paintings, and we have options for jewelry collections. After the shootings are completed, we talk to our customers in detail about the options of jewelry and paintings. Then the Photoshop process starts, there are many adjustments and corrections required for the backgrounds. After that, we send the prints for approval by our customers, and the process continues like this. First of all, it must have professional equipment. By equipment, I mean high-resolution cameras and lights that do not harm the eyes."

"Families and couples are especially preferred"

Eren Alp, who photographs people's eyes after the eye formation is complete, which is usually after the age of 5, stated that families and couples are especially preferred. He talked about the products and their prices: "Generally, we target 5-year-olds and above. Families and couples are especially preferred. Fathers are also very interested. It is a fantastic idea to take their daughter's or son's eyes and give them as a gift to mothers. We don't shoot anyone under the age of 5 since their eye formation is not complete yet. Our light that we use for shooting is similar to sunlight, but it can harm the eyes if it is too strong. That's why we can only do the shootings for people aged 5 and above. For paintings, we start from 15x15cm, which is a comfortable size for a person's eyes to see from a distance. There is no limit, we can go up to 100x100cm. The smallest size can be 15x15cm. Our prices start from 300 lira (about $35) as of 2023. It varies according to the size of the painting, the desired model, and whether it is silver or steel. It starts from 300 lira and can go up to 2,500-3,000 lira (about $290-$350)."
